Dating a Musician

An essential guide for dating band members

Don't forget the music will always come first.
Don't try to be the Band Manager. Stay out of the business side of things.
Never ask bandmates for relationship advice.
It's not mandatory to attend every gig of your boyfriend/girlfriend's band.
Don't complain when your "special day" gets canceled because a gig is booked.
Don't get jealous when your boyfriend/girlfriend talks to groupies. They are the ones buying the merchandise and paying to get in the door. Let them have their moment.
Babies don't make guys quit being a musician.
When choosing a name for that baby, be ready for Thelonious, Satchmo or Zoot.
Don't go on tour with the band. You'll just be another expense.

Don't follow him/her around at a show while they are taking care of business/networking.
Don't show up at rehearsal unless you're invited.
Do not assume everyone digs your boyfriend/girlfriend's band.
Don't make-out with other band member's boyfriend/girlfriend at the bar. Save it for the after party.
Don't turn yourself into a walking billboard. The shirt is fine but the hat, hoodie and band stickers on your ass may be a bit much.
If your boyfriend/girlfriend calls when they are on the road, don't complain about when they are coming home.
Never start a fight before show time. Any issues can wait until the next day.
Don't silently lip-sync the lyric when the vocalist sings a tune, even if you do know the words.
