Pitch ascends through the lines and spaces of the grand staff. The Grand StaffIn the Key of C - Treble Clef: the top five lines.
- Alto Clef: the middle five lines.
- Tenor Clef: one line down from the Alto Clef.
- Bass Clef: the bottom five lines.
When music on two staves is joined by a brace or is intended to be played at once by a single performer (usually a keyboard instrument or the harp), it is called the Grand Staff. The upper and lower staves are then seperated further to give room to dynamic markings and occasionally lyric. Seperating the two staves also may help the player distinguish between them more easily. |
