To honor its 28 years, the festival hailed by London's The Observer as the "biggest and probably the best Jazz festival in the world", presents a phenomenal array of concerts: legendary masters alongside groundbreaking newcomers, time-honored traditions mixed with bold exploration, and players and sounds from around the globe as well as from California's Bay Area. SFJAZZ continues to challenge tradition each fall as it puts together an artist roster that combines the best of the best from all corners of the world and the whole universe of Jazz. Known for assembling "a range of music and artists rarely seen in a jazz series" (San Jose Mercury News), its season will be one of the longest, running over ten weekends. The line-up is tantamount to an international summit of the finest Jazz players from around the world. As always, proceeds from the festival benefit SFJAZZ's music education programs in Bay Area schools. The 2010 San Francisco Jazz Festival line-up includes Chucho Valdes, Kenny Barron, David Sanchez, Ravi Shankar, Danilo Perez, Manhattan Transfer, Esperanza Spalding, Roy Haynes, Arturo Sandoval, Vijay Iyer, Yellowjackets, Jeff Lorber, Randy Brecker, Eric Marienthal, Anat Cohen, Avishai Cohen, Rosanne Cash, Lila Downs, Chris Potter, Ultrafunk, Henry Threadgill, Marcus Shelby, Nikki Yanofsky, Garaj Mahal, Meklit Hadero, James Carter, John Medeski, Yusef Lateef, Grace Cathedral, Gretchen Parlato, Taj Mahal, Toumani Diabate, Vieux Farka Toure, Jon Jang, Steve Lehman, Nellie McKay, Omara Portuondo, Natacha Atlas, Ledisi, Jose James, Jef Neve and many more to be announced. The 2010 San Francisco Jazz Festival is held September 14 to November 20.
